one thing to note , at least for me, after I renamed the apk the system became completely unstable and everything force closed. I was not able to move the new APK file into apropriate location and set permissions. What I did to solve this was to run a Linux bootable USB and then navigated to the android folder to move and chmod permisions all from comand line.

Reboot and all was right in the OS with a nice black pointer built into factory os.
